Credit for Learning
Indiana Tech offers many routes to credit for knowledge and prior learning.
Prior Learning Assessment
Prior Learning Assessment, or PLA, is a route for those with on-the-job training or other nontraditional learning to prepare a portfolio for translation to college credit at Indiana Tech. This option is available to adult and online students in the College of Professional Studies.
Advanced Placement (AP) credit
Students can earn college credit through the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Program by completing AP exams each May. College Board determines students’ proficiency using a five-point scale. Once you complete your test, request to have the scores sent to our Admissions office. Once we receive and evaluate your scores, we will notify you regarding what college credit you have earned. You can view possible equivalencies and required scores here. If you have already registered for classes by the time credit is determined, we will help you adjust your class schedule accordingly.
CLEP/DANTES (a.k.a. DSST)
The CLEP and DANTES (a.k.a. DSST) exams allow students to show proficiency in a subject via an exam. Additional information on scheduling and Indiana Tech course equivalencies for the exams can be found here:
